The use of lithium salt as an electrolyte, alongside the highest energy-dense chemistries currently on the market allows the battery to store more energy in a smaller space. Toyota Lithium-ion batteries can therefore withstand more load cycles, with less energy lost during charging cycles and the constant maximum power provision, and their electronic controllers ensure reliability and safety.
Lithium ion batteries generate less heat and improve stable voltage delivery at any charge level. The cylindrical cells are designed not to touch one another ensuring a safety hazard in one cell does not directly impact neighbouring cells. The cylindrical shape also protects the cells from damage by making them harder to penetrate and making them generally more difficult to damage. This combined with other ergonomic designs, and easy-to-use chargers make them easy and safe to use.
A battery system is made up of several modules (several cells assembled together) connected in series. Each module is equipped with a safety system and the complete battery system has a superior BMS which controls the total battery activity, whether charge or outlet.
